Couple's New Year's Resolution Growth Plan
In this exercise you and your partner are discerning your steps ahead, both as individuals and as a couple. Alone, your steps may be very wobbly; together there is a rightness to these steps when you are each supporting the other. Listening into these steps is another spiritual practice: a discipline of deep listening.
STEP 1: Complete Questions 1-3 individually.
STEP 2: Compare your answers with your beloved's. (You might alternate reading them out to one another.)
STEP 3: Using the deep listening and reflection practices from Couple Dialogue, discern together how to answer questions 4-6.
***********
STEP 1:
QUESTION 1: What are three things I want for myself in the new year? For each, what will I need from my partner?
QUESTION 2: What are three things I want for my partner during the new year? For each, how am I willing to support my partner?
QUESTION 3: What are three things I want for us during the next 3 months? For each, what will we need to do to make these dreams come alive?
STEP 2:
Share your answers to questions 1-3 with your partner.
STEP 3: Discern together your answers to questions 4-6.
Question: 4: What one (or more) things do we now agree on that we want to achieve as separate persons and as a couple in the new year?
Question 5: What specific things are we going to do either more of or less of as a means of being successful in achieving our jointly agreed goals?
Question 6: When and how will we review this growth plan?
